Taurine in Grain Free Food

5.7.2020 Answers: 1 Milda G.

Hello, we have 10 months old Golden retriever, she is eating Brit Care Salmon & Potato Junior Large Breed dry food. There is a lot of information about grain free dry foods connections with possible taurine deficiency and heart problems (investigation of FDA in USA). Can I continue giving my dog only this Salmon & Potato grain free food and be calm that she gets enough of necessary amino acids for good development and especially strong heart? Or it would be good to change this dry food or to give additionally some wet canned food with high meat content or some raw meat to make sure dog gets enough of taurine? Thank you very much for Your advice.

Hallo, this information is the result of a very inaccurate interpretation of the survey results. These studies were based on survey of composition Grain-free foods, where large part of meat was replaced with legumes. Cause of that these foods had very low content of animal proteins, meat. Brit foods always contain sufficient percentage of meat (e.g. BC JLB Salmon & Potato 48%) ensuring very sufficient content of taurine. Best regards Martin Kvas
