History: In Cornwall, in 1950, it was appeared in a litter of farm cats because of the genetic mutation of a curly kitten. It was named Kallibunker and it became the founder of the breed. Its owner, Nina Ennismore, that lady gave cats the name Rex, similar to mutations of the Rex type occurring by rabbits. The name Cornish then got the breed according to the place of origin.

Temperament: Cornish Rex is a social, cuddly cat that loves attention and likes to stay close to people. It does not like staying alone. With other cats and dogs, they usually get well. Individuals of this breed have a balanced, good-natured character. That's why they are good companions for children. They are characterized by intelligence and curiosity, so they do not have the problem of learning to use the harness.

Body: It is a small to medium sized cat with a muscular body and fine bone structure. The legs are long and have oval paws. The tail is long and thin, running to the tip. The wedge-shaped head narrows significantly to the chin. The profile is straight without bending, the chin is distinctive. Wide-set large ears with rounded toe are high on the head. Big eyes are almond-shaped. Cornish Rex has small oval paws and a long thin tail extending to the tip.

Coat: The short, fine and dense coat of Cornish Rex is a bit plush, without sharp hairs. The touch is very soft. Curled or wavy is primarily on the back and tail. Tear hairs and eyebrows are also covered. Although they are recommended as allergy-free animals due to a little moulting, but not all of people respond well to this breed.

Care: Due to the fact that the coat of Cornish Rex is hardly moulting, it will be very well suited for regular care or brushing with a fine brush. Hard combing could damage the hair. In case of participation at cat shows, it may sometimes be necessary to wash Cornish Rex with a shampoo for cats, several days before the show, so that the coat has time to recover. It is necessary to clean the ears, if necessary, or cut claws.

Colour variants: All colours and patterns, including combinations with white, are recognized. The eye´s colour can be different, but it should correspond to the colour of the coat. The most common colours are full of black and blue with or without white spots, white and tortoiseshell.
