Tibetan Mastiff - Do-Khyi - Group II. - Pinschers and Schnauzers, Molossoid breeds, Swiss Mountain and Cattle Dogs.

General Appearance:

It's a dog isolated, serene, calm, proud, owner unconditionally devoted and faithful, never bother. It is independent, even if it likes staying close to owner. It can stay outdoors all year round because of its coat but it cannot be neglected, it must not spend its life in outdoor pen and it must have often contact with people. It requires respect as defender it is very consistent in guarding of own the territory. The instinct to protect home and totally it is uncompromising. It guards owner’s property very strongly. It does not often bark, but is yes you can hear, dark, rumbling voice. To children it is tolerant.

Training/Behaviour:

If it is familiar with other pets at an early age, it gets well with them. Some males tend to have a tendency to act other they are dominant, but usually they do not cause conflicts. Broad early socialization it can this tendency reasonably muted. If this is attacked, it fights very hard and uncompromising.

Education must be gentle, but perfectly consistent, reasonable to age, always without any physical coercion. Automatic and mindless orders cannot be expected, because thanks to its innate sovereignty and independence is accustomed to its own discretion, however, due to its power must be well controlled in adulthood. To unknown persons it behaves with restraint.

It matures slowly and long. Physically and mentally mature females up to 2-3 years and males at least 4 years.

Body:

It's strong, sturdy, stately dog with strong bones, impressive appearance, dignified and gentle demeanour. It presents a balanced combination of strength, robustness and endurance. Body slightly longer than height at withers, male is min. 66 cm for females is min. 61 cm.

The head is broad, heavy and bulky. Adult dog, it can have the wrinkles from its forehead beginning to the corners of the mouth. The length of the skull, measured from occipital part after frontal slope (stop, the junction of the inner corners of the eye) is equal to the length of muzzle measured from stop to tip of nose but muzzle may be a little shorter. The skull is large, above very slightly rounded, with a strong occipital part. Stop must be clearly declining.

The muzzle should be wide enough, duly filled in under the eyes when viewed from the deep (high). Its end is rectangular when viewed from the front. The nose should be large, because of the colour of hair as dark as possible, with wide open nostrils.

Lips are fairly loose, upper overlaps the lower jaw. Jaws should be strong, with perfect, regular and complete scissor bite. Six upper teeth are closely overlapping six down ones, both of which are planted in the jaws. Level bite is accepted, then the teeth on a straight line.

Eyes are medium sized, stored far apart, oval and slightly slanting, with irises any shade of brown colour corresponding to coat colour. The darker it is the better. Their expression should be dignified. Eyelids are tightly fitting to the eyeballs.

The earlobes are set under the top of the vault of the skull, above the eye line. They are medium-sized, triangular shape, hanging. Fall forward and close to head. In alertness, they are rotated forward. It covers a soft, short hair.

The neck should be strong, powerfully muscled, the neck arched, covered with dense hair forming upstanding "mane" (bitches is not so important). On the neck is not too large lobe. The body must be massive, spine straight, muscular, tail broad and rather flat. The tail is moderately long, set on high, at the level of the upper body lines. In action or motion is carried up, loosely curled over the back and shoulders. It is richly coated.

The chest must be very deep, fairly broad, with appropriately sprung ribs. The imaginary cross-section has a roughly heart-shaped shape. When viewed from the side reaching below elbows.

The forelegs are straight, properly angled, heavily coated all over. Shoulders must be appropriately oblique, muscular. Elbows are turning neither in nor out. Forearms should be straight, strong bones. Pasterns are strong when viewed from the side slightly askew.

The hindquarters must be strong, muscular, properly angulated when viewed from behind parallel. Femurs are quite long, thick, strong and firm muscles, but not prominent (thighs are quite flat). Knees should be moderately bent, hocks strong low over the base. Dewclaws may persist, but may also be absent. Feet are large, strong, round and compact, the well-arched toes and thick long hair.

Movement is energetic, but always light and elastic, with enough hearty moments and hind legs. With increasing speed, it has a tendency feet closer to the median longitudinal vertical plane of the body. In walking it seems very deliberately, but in hilly terrain varies very assiduously and flexibly.

Hair quality is more important than quantity. The coat should be rough for the touch, thick. The outer coat is hard, straight and wispy, should not be too long, silky, curly or wavy. The undercoat must be dense in the cold months, woolly, warmer is thinner. Male has noticeably more coat than female. Neck and shoulders are covered with rich "mane". The tail is bushy, with strong fringes on the underside. It forms behind the thighs a long coat standing rich "pants".

Hair colouring can be uniformly solid black or black and tan, uniformly blue or blue and tan, gold (from bright yellow to dark red), sable. All colours must be as clean as possible. Tan points may be different shades, from rich chestnut after light. A white patch on the front of the chest is permissible as minimum size white markings on the feet. The tan markings are above the eyes, on the lower parts of the legs, on the underside of the tail and on the muzzle. Drawing the eyes resembling spectacles is tolerated.
