Slovakian Hound - Group VI. - Scenthounds and related breeds.

General Appearance:

Its character is a spirited, hardy and extremely courageous, against possible counter-attacks deer, resistant dog. Beyond the control of the owner it can be aggressive, but this is primarily a matter of selection, which is systematic and long focused on sharpness. The traditions and hunters constantly repeated assertion that "the sharpness is not the same as aggression" in breeding there are preferred individuals that are aggressive.

Training / Behaviour:

It is considered a breed less manageable, however, the question is whether those who were involved in its training, selecting the appropriate methods of breeding and respecting individual specifics. Normally, it is powerful hunters used in training hunting dogs with similar usage called “parfors” (from French Par force = force), whose goal is mainly to break the dog character. This breed may perform certain stubbornness.

Body:

This is a typical hound smaller lighter body structure and strong bones. Body is elongated rectangular frame. Height at withers, male is   from 45 to 50 (ideal 46) cm and female is from 40 to 45 (ideal. 43) cm, weight of body is from 15 to 20 (ideal.16) kg.

The nose is always black-coloured, adequate size, slightly pointed. Nostrils are opened. Jaws must be symmetrical, solid. Full complement of teeth, the teeth are large.

The eyes are dark and stored properly in orbit and almond shaped. Their look is bright and bold. The edges of the eyelids are always black.

The earlobes should be set slightly below eye level, medium length, rounded at the end and the area along the head hanging.

The neck is fixedly connected to the shoulders with its axis forms with the horizontal an angle of about 135 °. It is a short, muscular, without dewlap at the throat.

The tail is set below the topline of the body, rather thick and reaching to the hocks and towards the tip tapers. The rest is to be suspended in the heat of passion like - sickle and carried upward so that it forms the upper line of the body angle of about 150 degrees.

The chest should be broad, moderately deep, good length, roomy. Its width is about 16.5 cm, a depth of about 22 cm, a length of about 31.5 cm. The forelegs are blades and shoulder bones relatively short, strong and muscular. Feet should be oval, with toes well arched, nails black and strong and padded dark-coloured and durable.

Skin should be dark brown to black, well adjacent to the skeletal muscle and subcutaneous tissue, without forming wrinkles and folds.

The topcoat is about 2.5 cm long, medium-hard. It is close fitting, dense, back, neck and tail longer. The undercoat must be dense, especially during winter months, but must not be lacking in summer. Colouration is required black with tan markings on various saturation limbs.

Faults include excessive height at withers (greater than allowed by standard), other than black base coat colour, white markings, sharply defined tan markings, bright eyes, incomplete dentition, faulty bite, earlobes light or at the ends pointed, overhanging lip, loose skin on the neck, body structure clumsy, stocky, remarkably long tail or the rest carried above the top line of the body, heavy head, flat chest, soft back.
